The following core courses may be waived if the following conditions are met:
COURSE | WAIVER REQUIREMENT |
| BUSI 610 Financial Accounting | CPA license and department chair approval |
| BUSI 611 Managerial Accounting | CPA license and department chair approval |
| BUSI 630 Data Models and Decisions | Successful passing of waiver examination |
| BUSI 640 Financial Management | Successful passing of waiver examination |
Only students with a valid CPA license are eligible to waive these courses. In addition, students must appeal in writing to the department chair for approval of the waiver request.
Waiver decisions are final; they are not subject to appeal or negotiation. If a student is granted a course waiver, that course must be replaced with another course of equal or greater credit hours. Course waivers do not diminish the number of credits required for graduation. At least 54 credits are required for graduation. If a waiver is granted, please contact your campus administrator for guidance regarding replacement credits.
Please submit your waiver request, Waiver Checklist Form and copy of your CPA license to:
Mary Susan Forsythe (mforsythe@rhsmith.umd.edu)
Fax: (301) 314-7801
The deadline for submissions is Friday, July 27, 2007. Prior to the beginning of the Fall Semester is the ONLY opportunity to waive a course while in the program.
Waiver examinations are offered to incoming students for BUSI 630 and BUSI 640 during orientation. These exams are offered only during orientation and will not be provided at any other time. If you do not take the waiver examination during orientation, you will not be able to waive any of these classes.
Each exam is comprehensive of the course material. Exams are offered in a three-hour time block. Students wishing to take one or both of the waiver exams should notify Mary Susan Forsythe (mforsythe@rhsmith.umd.edu) in the MBA Programs Office by Friday, July 27, 2007. The MBA Programs Office will provide a copy of a recent course syllabus if requested, but no other information (including a faculty/staff contact to answer questions) will be provided prior to (or during) the exam.
