Inclement Weather Policy

College Park Campus:
College Park closings will be announced on various radio and television stations and can be heard by calling (301) 405-SNOW or by checking  www.umd.edu/umnews/alert.htm

Baltimore Campus:
The Baltimore campus will follow the University of Maryland, Baltimore (not College Park) policies and decisions regarding delays and closures. All Baltimore faculty, staff and students are directed to check the UMB web site: http://www.umaryland.edu/alerts/ or call the Campus Emergency Information Phone Line at 410-706-8622. You may also hear alerts from the local radio and television stations. Please make sure they state that it's the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB).

There is a possibility that the College Park campus will be open, but the Baltimore campus will be closed and vice versa.

Shady Grove Campus:
Shady Grove Center follows University System of Maryland Shady Grove Center (not College Park) policies and decisions regarding delays and closures. As such, all Shady Grove Center faculty, staff and students are directed to check the Shady Grove web site www.shadygrove.umd.edu/about/public-safety/alerts/weather/, local radio and television stations, or call 301-738-6000 Press 1 for updated closing/delay information.

There are several universities that comprise the University System of Maryland Shady Grove Center. Please be mindful that one year, overzealous students put a sign on the front door of USM Shady Grove stating "classes cancelled." This was true for their university, but Smith held classes as scheduled. While this was addressed and assurances were offered that it would not reoccur, it is strongly suggested that, if the aforementioned contacts indicate that classes are being held and your professor has not posted any special instructions on Blackboard, students should proceed to their classroom as scheduled.

There is a possibility that the College Park campus will be open, but the Shady Grove campus will be closed and vice versa.

Washington, DC Campus:
The Washington, DC Evening Program will use the following policy regarding delays and closures:

  • DC Evening classes will follow the closing schedule of the University of Maryland at College Park unless there is something specific to the Reagan Building taking place. The College Park information can be found by calling (301) 405-SNOW or by listening to local radio and television stations. In all instances, an email will be sent to all students and an announcement will be left at (202) 898-1945 and (202) 898-1948
  • For the Washington, DC Weekend Program, however, a decision will be made at 5:00 a.m. on the Saturday in question. An email will be sent to all students and an announcement will be left at (202) 898-1945 and (202) 898-1948.
Please note - There is a possibility that the College Park campus will be open, but the Washington, DC campus will be closed and vice versa.
