Registration Blocks
Also read the section regarding "pre-requisites.
Each course at the 600 and 700 level has a restriction. Typically, these restrictions are a combination of credit limits and degree programs. For example, an elective that is restricted to second year students would have a minimum credit requirement of approximately 21 credits. Since on-track first year MBA students have less than 18 credits, they would be restricted from taking this course. On the other hand, 600-level courses would have a maximum of approximately 21 credits, so second year students (who typically have 26-29+ credits completed) would be restricted from these courses. When this block is encountered, the system will state: "you have not met course selection restrictions." If you encounter this block, you should first verify that you should be allowed to take this course. If you determine that you are eligible, please get in touch with your campus administrator so we can look into the situation.
Student Blocks
Some of the common problems that are encountered in the registration process involve blocks that are placed on your student record. The Busars Office, Graduate School, International Education Services, the Health Center, and other university departments can activate these blocks. Problems may include: missing transcripts, immunization records that have not cleared, overdue bills, writing test not completed (international students), parking violations, etc. It is your responsibility to be sure that records are complete and up to date. The most common block for first year students occurring during the Spring registration process is from the Health Center. We recommend that any first year student who has not cleared his/her immunization records, should call the Health Center immediately at (301) 314-8120 to get this resolved.
To check for blocks, go to http://www.testudo.umd.edu/apps/invloc/. In Testudo, select "Records and Registration," then choose "Appointment and Registration Status." Any blocks you have should be listed on this screen. The MBA Programs Office does not have access to view blocks and does not have the authority to remove blocks placed on your record by other University offices. The Office of the Registrar is the best contact if there is a block of your registration. You are responsible for checking your account for blocks and getting them cleared prior to the start of registration. The MBA Programs Office does not hold any class space for students who experience blocks.
Note to all Fall 2007 Admits:
Please review your admission letter from the Graduate School for any provisions and make sure they are resolved prior to the start of registration. The Graduate School will place a registration block on your record for any provisional admission issues not fulfilled (i.e. missing official transcripts, calculus requirement, etc.). This block does not appear on the "Appointment and Registration Status" screen. This notification would have appeared on your provisional admission letter from the Graduate School (not the Business School letter).
